Lotus Resilience Story
‘Life is the dance between our experiences and stories’ (Anon).
Lotus Resilience Project was founded during the COVID-19 pandemic. Now more than ever we need to be able to draw on what helps us thrive despite rapid change and uncertainty. You may even find yourself asking parents or grandparents about how they survived times of hardship. What I have learned through my own experiences and listening to the stories of others is that adversity is a given. And the good news is that our capacity to develop and strengthen our resilience lies within our greatest challenges and setbacks.
‘Rock bottom became the solid foundation in which to rebuilt my life’ – J.K. Rolling
‘Do not judge me by my success, judge me by how many times I fell down and got back up again’ – Nelsen Mandela
Language connects us to each other and to ourselves. It facilitates belonging and acceptance. I am passionate about helping people reframe their story to connect with purpose, personal strengths, courage and self-determination. How we view ourselves can be impacted by our experiences either positively or negatively. We may not always have control over what happens to us, however our narrative will shape how we see ourselves in relation to our experiences.
Collective Vulnerability and Covid-19
Vulnerability is the birthplace of resilience. It is the place where discomfort lives and strength emerges. Courage cannot exist without fear, joy cannot be fully experienced without some suffering, love is cherished because we know there is the risk of loss. Our greatest fears as human beings are generally fear of rejection, failure, social exclusion, humiliation, negative judgement and of our own mortality.
As a community, we have been thrown into a place of uncertainty and yep you know it – VULNERABILITY. This is bigger than us as individuals, collectively we are feeling it and fighting back. We are still finding ways to show up, adapt, finding the joy, rebuild, slow down, reset, refocus and reframe what is collectively happening to us.
Dr Brene Brown puts it like this;
‘ ‘You don’t measure vulnerability by the amount you’re willing to share but by the courage you have to show up and be seen when you can’t control the outcome.’
Resilience lies within all of us. Just like the lotus we grow. We thrive. Even in mud.
